Let us assemble that new furniture for you. We’re engineers and we’re pretty good at building things.
Old Engineer provides professional furniture assembly throughout the Raleigh-Durham area at a price that makes sense. That flat-pack box with 200 parts, a bag of mystery hardware, and instructions with no words? That’s a normal Tuesday for us. We’ll build it square, tight, and level, and you’ll never know it came out of a box.
If it comes in a flat box, we build it:
We assemble furniture from IKEA, Wayfair, Amazon, Target, Costco, West Elm, and everywhere else flat-pack furniture comes from. Every job includes unboxing, complete assembly per the manufacturer’s instructions, hardware tightening and squaring, placement in the room where you want it, and boxing up the packaging for disposal.
Tall dressers, bookcases, and wardrobes should be anchored to the wall, full stop. Tip-over accidents are the reason those anti-tip straps come in the box, and most people never install them. We anchor tip-prone furniture to the wall as part of the job, done properly into studs or with the right anchors, so it’s safe around kids, pets, and enthusiastic climbers.
Old Engineer isn’t a big franchise with big franchise prices. We’re experienced, detail-oriented professionals, actual engineers in fact, who believe furniture assembly shouldn’t cost more than the furniture. You get careful workmanship, straightforward pricing, and furniture that doesn’t wobble.
We provide furniture assembly in Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Garner, Holly Springs, and surrounding Triangle communities.
It depends on the piece. A nightstand is quick, a PAX wardrobe is an afternoon. Send us what you bought (a link or photo works great) and we’ll give you a quick quote, and doing several pieces in one visit is the best value.
Small items take 30 minutes to an hour. Beds and dressers typically run 1 to 2 hours. Large wardrobe systems and complex pieces can take longer. We’ll give you a time estimate with your quote.
All day long. From BILLY bookcases to full PAX closet builds, and yes, we can read those instructions.
We’ll identify exactly what’s missing or damaged so you can request replacements from the retailer (IKEA and most retailers send parts free). We’ll build everything we can and come back to finish if needed.
For most jobs someone should let us in and confirm where furniture goes, but you don’t need to hover. Plenty of clients work from home while we build.
Yes, and for tall dressers, bookcases, and wardrobes we strongly recommend it, especially in homes with kids. We anchor into studs or with appropriate wall anchors as part of the assembly.
Yes, we disassemble and reassemble furniture for moves, room changes, or pieces that won’t fit through a doorway any other way.
